For the last 30 years, many manufacturers have followed the ISA-95 standard for control systems hierarchy. The MOM (or MES) system at level 3 has always been the meeting place of information technology (IT) and operations technology (OT) and, until recently, has almost always been implemented as a shop floor system. In this spotlight, we investigate the move of MOM solutions to the Cloud and look at some of the benefits and challenges of doing so.
